The strips should measure five inches long by one inch wide (12.5cm x 2.5cm). You can cut them longer if you wish, but you will need to cut them all the same length for best results.

If you are cutting new fabric, cut around 1” strips but vary them a little for variety. To make a garland like mine that hangs down about 10” and is about 6 feet long, you need about 240 strips of fabric that range from 20 inches to 30 inches. When folded in half, this makes each strip around 10-15” long.

One yard of about 5 different fabrics will get you a medium sized garland (as pictured above). If you want it larger, simply add a few more yards of fabric. If you want to make mini banners, it would be fun to buy the small quilters bundles of fabric that come in fat quarters.
